FAQS

Emeraldz is a minority-owned, independent business.

We have service and retail backgrounds, with a strong emphasis on developing relationships with our customers and learning about their needs.

We believe many consumers are looking for a premier cannabis shopping experience. Emeraldz will provide consumer education, access to a variety of products, and the best NYS cannabis available, all in our modern, chic space.

We’re excited to contribute to the vibrant business community here on Delaware Ave. We aim to not only meet the needs of legal adults but also to ensure we can give back directly to the community as we grow and succeed.

Part of that includes maintaining an open dialogue with our neighbors.

We’re excited to continue working with, and learning from, you all to create a business that not only brings jobs and tax dollars into the community but directly supports neighborhood needs and goals.

Unlike much of the Capital Region, the Delaware Avenue community is incredibly diverse.

Racially, culturally, and economically, our community looks and lives differently than most of our area. That means it was also uniquely impacted by the War on Drugs.

While Emeraldz is not a CAURD dispensary, we aim to adhere to the Office of Cannabis Management’s goals for investing in the communities impacted by the disproportionate enforcement of cannabis prohibition.

Cannabis is highly regulated there are strict requirements with many checks (and double-checks) to ensure the safety of minors. Before a customer is permitted entry to the dispensary, they must provide valid identification at our first security checkpoint.

There is no consumption allowed in or around Emeraldz dispensary.

New York State’s Office of Cannabis Management has a number of requirements for legal dispensaries, making them a safe addition to many communities

  • No one under the age of 21 will be allowed inside Emeraldz, or any dispensary location. Verifiable identification will be required before entering the dispensary, and again at checkout.
  • No cannabis products may be displayed in an area that is visible from outside the store. No advertisement, unless it is a permitted outdoor sign, can be seen from a school ground, childcare center, playground, public park, or library.

Emeraldz will have additional safety and security measures, including ongoing staff training, security systems, and a “better safe than sorry” policy to encourage our employees to make the safe judgment call when the validity of a customer’s identification is under suspicion.

All products sold by legal, regulated dispensaries like Emeraldz are required to be child-resistant, tamper-evident, and fully enclosed. Cannabis product packaging cannot be attractive to individuals under twenty-one. Packaging cannot include:

  • cartoons
  • bubble-type, or cartoon-like font
  • bright colors that are “neon” in appearance
  • terms “candy” or “candies” or variants in spelling such as “kandy” or “kandeez”
  • symbols, images, characters, public figures, phrases, toys, or games that are commonly used to market products to individuals under the age of twenty-one
  • images of individuals who could reasonably appear to be under the age of twenty-one

There are many names for this great plant, but in New York under the OCM, the term cannabis is used instead of marijuana.

The cannabis plant produces more than 100 different cannabinoids, which are natural compounds that can have different effects on the mind and body. Tetrahydrocannabinol known as “THC” and cannabidiol known as “CBD” are the most common.

THC is known for its psychoactive effects (a feeling of being high). CBD does not cause a “high” or psychoactive effect by itself, but may have other uses and benefits.

In New York, “hemp” is used to classify varieties of cannabis that contain 0.3% or less THC.

The non-flowering parts of the cannabis plant are often used to make products fabric, ropes, carrier oils, and more. These products are often labeled as “hemp” clothing or “hemp” oil.

“Adult-use cannabis” is used to refer to non-medical cannabis.

Cannabis has been consumed by people for thousands of years for medicinal, recreational, industrial, and food purposes.

But cannabis does not affect everyone the same.

Despite the medicinal uses of cannabis, there can also be health risks for certain populations or individuals. Many of these risks depend on when you consume cannabis, how much you consume, and the type of cannabis you consume.

If you haven’t consumed cannabis before, or it has been a while, it’s good to “start low and go slow.”  Different forms of cannabis can also have different effects. For example, edible cannabis products can take up to 4 hours before the individual feels the peak effects.

Testing

All legal cannabis products sold in New York are lab-tested prior to sale. This helps to ensure the products don’t contain mold, heavy metals, pesticides, residual solvents, foreign materials, and other contaminants.

Safe Consumption

Cannabis should always be consumed responsibly and never before driving or operating heavy machinery. Cannabis can impair concentration, coordination and judgment. Do not operate a vehicle or machinery under the influence of cannabis.

Pregnancy

Like many other drugs, there is limited research on the effects of cannabis on pregnancy and/or fetal development.

A safe choice is to take a break from cannabis consumption.  There is no known safe amount of cannabis use during pregnancy or during chest/breastfeeding.
